Utopia Opera~Pagliacci: Nedda June 28th
It's been a long time since I updated my blog.
I am very excited to announce that I'll be singing Nedda in Pagliacci with Utopia Opera.
I actually learned the role of Nedda about 3 years ago for a competition, and I ended up getting different role at that time :Cio Cio San! But it was not a waste of my energy because now I'm singing the role.
It is a very short opera and unlike the other operas I have sung before, it is a very realistic opera, AKA "Verismo."
It means I'm not going to be portraying a princess or someone who exists only in a fairy tale with beautiful words and daydreaming music.
I have to play someone who might have lived in real life. She says things that are real, like she hates something or feel strange, she doesn't just talk about love, or about how everything is perfect and beautiful.
I recently realized I have never done this before in opera!
I had a hard time to accept saying these ugly, hateful, curse words in order to to create something great artistically. But sometimes art is not always the perfect and ideal. So it has been a very different experience to learn this role.
The music itself always gives me joy, but this time, I have to use my other part of my personality to live in this world.
I've been wondering
how can I sing this role, which has so much negative in the words, and still attract my audience?
Well, I think I've got it.
I feel much better now. She really lived. She lived her short life doing what she wanted to do, and following what she believed.
I hope you can join with me and experience her life journy with me.
